What to Expect During a Massage?

Many have questions about what takes place during a treatment, especially if it is the first appointment. The following information about your first visit will prepare you for an informed and comfortable experience:

  • The client will complete an intake form and health history. The client will also read and sign an informed consent.
  • Margaret will then complete an interview with the client. This time allows her to review the intake form, discuss medical conditions, find out the expectations of the client, and set treatment goals. (If this is a follow-up appointment, this will take less time than the first appointment.)
  • Afterward, Margaret will explain what will take place during the session
  • If the appointment is a massage, Margaret will leave the room while the client undresses to their level of comfort and gets situated on the massage table, covered by a sheet and blanket.

During a massage session (typically a full body massage) Margaret will work the back, shoulders, hips/glutes, legs. Then the client turns over on the table, under the sheet, and Margaret works the front of the legs, feet, hands, arms, shoulders, neck, head, and face. Only the area being massaged is uncovered. The intake forms allow you to specify any areas where you do not feel comfortable being worked and she will avoid those areas.

Margaret may use unscented, hypoallergenic fractionated coconut oil to help reduce friction; however, massage lotion is available. Be sure to let her know if you have any allergies or sensitivities to oils or lotions so other accommodations can be made for you.
